"Nugget" 2024 Demo April Updates


APRIL 2024. THAT IS ALL.

jk here's everything done so far:

  • I have finalized both gameplay and bug fixing. All there's left to do is to polish the game up just a little more, then I can be comfortable to release the update.
  • I've decided to tease 2-ish things for the 2-Player Battle mode. One of those things is an upcoming game mode: BUZZER BEATER!
    • Buzzer Beater is an upcoming BRAND-NEW game mode being planned for the full release. 
    • In Buzzer Beater, you're given a few seconds (based on your handicap) to choose a move before your turn gets ultimately skipped.
    • There's some things and kinks I'm trying to fix, but, so far, it's running smoothly. Here's how it should play out.
    • I'm still trying to find the optimal parameters to make sure the new game mode is fair and balanced (Unlike 0.1.0. Invisi-stats... :/), which means that this game mode is NOT ready for 0.2.0.
  • Another thing I plan on adding for 2-Player Battle mode is some sort of "character select screen". I call them: INTELLIGENCIES!
    • Intelligencies modify certain parameters to buff or nerf the player. For example:
      • Your evasion stat will decrease, but you'll receive less damage from attacks.
      • Whacker might cost more, but it will do poison damage to the opponent.
      • Healing is better, but your attack power is worse.
      • Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!
    • Of course, I haven't done anything for these to work yet since they are of low priority right now. They will be ready by, like, the full release...?
  • Another thing I plan on adding soon is a way to practice Quizette's 3 games. I don't think this will be in 0.2.0., either, but we'll see...

DISCLAIMER: Due to the length between updates, there may be certain bugs listed here that are actually absent from the previous version. I also never constantly update my changelog so there might also be bugs patched out that were never specified.

  • MASTER DIFFICULTY!
    • Master difficulty has been verified for Boss 1 of 5 (Evil McBad Guy). Watch the verification video!
    • You can play this brand-new difficulty after completing hard mode. Not only that, you will also get to play...
  • QUICK PLAY!
    • After beating the game once, you can fight any boss you like on any difficulty with no assistance from outside sources (like mistake buffs) in the all-new QUICK PLAY tab!
    • The way Quick Play is coded might cause some bugs during battles so please report them using the "Report Bug" link next to the game version. You can't miss it.
  • CHALLENGES!
    • While you beat the demo, a list of challenges will be given to you. Can you beat them all?
    • The way Challenges are coded might cause some bugs so please report them using the "Report Bug" link.
  • Someone Has Come to Lend a Helping Hand!
    • After 3 fails, a little guest will try to help you by affecting the enemy's starting DP. You can also tell her not to do that. (Automatically off during Quick Play)
    • This is still being worked on, so please report any bugs to me or suggest any changes down on the Discord.
  • Additions and Changes
    • You can now skip the "Message before playing" sequence by clicking on "I've Played Before".
    • Revamped the tutorial.
    • Reworked the stats screen (Background Check) to be more clean.
    • Hovering the mouse over "Aaron" will show you the recommended strategy for the current boss.
    • Hovering the mouse over the name of the boss will show you their motive. These do not serve as strategic tips and are purely for decoration.
    • "Dodge Stats" has been renamed to "Evasion Stats".
    • Added a "Play More" menu to the main menu.
    • Added a brand-new "Settings" menu to the main menu. Adjust the game to your liking.
    • Cooldowns are now visible.
    • Added special text when you hit 0MP.
    • The game addresses "Aaron" instead of the player during specific sections in the game to avoid confusion.
    • After beating the demo, you will gain the ability to skip the "filler" in between bosses.
    • Rewritten the Mom character to be more likable. Now she's strict AND not committing parental neglect!
    • Changed the code that caps player health. Some bugs may arise.
    • Change Difficulty now returns you to the main fight instead of the game over screen.
    • Rewritten certain lines of dialogue.
    • Fixed typos. (Shoutouts to Unify)
    • A link to The Upper Discord has been added, replacing TheUpperDiamond's Discord Handle. (DMs are still open btw :D)
    • Updated the content descriptors to be in-line with what is in the current game build instead of what's projected in the final.
    • In the event that the code breaks, an error screen will pop up to send you back to the title screen. Just a precaution.
    • Additional QoL Additions and Changes.
    • Additional Consistency Changes.
  • Main Game Patch Notes
    • Fixed some incorrect patch notes.
    • Fixed the entire game's RNG not rolling the highest possible number.
    • Fixed a bug where Whacker wouldn't work properly on specific difficulties.
    • Fixed a bug where critical heal wouldn't double the heal output.
    • After using Literacy Enhancement, backfired healing should no longer deal negative damage, healing the player.
    • Fixed a bug where Healing would skip Roach's turn.
    • Fixed a bug where Quick Act and Literacy Enhancement wouldn't work correctly during the main story mode's battles. I KNEW THOSE WERE PLACEBOS!
    • Fixed a bug where Special moves were on cooldown incorrectly.
    • Fixed a bug where MP wouldn't cap correctly when using Determination.
    • Fixed a bug where Literacy Enhancement wouldn't work properly on Evil McBad Guy.
    • Fixed a bug where Literacy Enhancement and Whacker would incorrectly decrease MP during Mom's fight.
    • Healing now states that it "backfired" when it rolls a zero.
    • Fixed a potential bug where fails and restarts would stack every time you change the game's difficulty (by removing the ability to return to the Game Over Screen when changing difficulties).
    • Fixed an inconsistency with the dialogue during Roach's battle.
    • Fixed an inconsistency with the "5" in "5MP" being separated with a space. (It looked like "5 MP" when it should be "5MP" like everyone else.)
    • Removed the ability to switch to a harder difficulty to avoid cheating.
  • Balance Changes!
    • Roach
      • Decreased Evasion and Damage for the enemy and player on all fronts (10,35) -> (1,3).
      • Whacker should now be possible. (It would always fail as a joke. That was intentional game design. Easy mode was meant to be harder than Normal when it came to the tutorial to slow down speedrunners.)
    • Evil McBad Guy
      • Heal Limiter for enemy added (7 on Normal, 10 on Hard, and Heal Disabled on Easy)
    • Mom
      • Heal Limiter for enemy added (10 on Normal, 15 on Hard, and 5 on Easy)
      • Decreased Aaron's Attack Damage/Accuracy During Mom's Battle (Ran 15,35 -> Ran 5,20)
      • Decreased Whacker Recoil Chance (Ran 30,55 -> Ran 25,50)
      • Decreased Reflect/Determination Counter Attack Damage/Accuracy (Ran 1,45 -> Ran 1,30)
      • Decreased Aaron's Evasion from Mom Attack (Ran 5,30 -> Ran 1,20)
    • General Gameplay
      • Buffed Aaron's Heal Backfire Chance (Ran -10,20 -> Ran -15,15)
      • Certain bosses now have a Heal Limiter which will limit the times a boss heals during battles.
      • The effects of Quick Act and Literacy Enhancement no longer stack during Hard mode. Instead, they refresh, rolling a new buff number. This rule applies to Cold-Hearted Mode.
      • The buff that comes from mistakes is now optional. You can toggle it in the "Settings" menu.
      • The buff that comes from mistakes, Quick Act, and Literacy Enhancement now cap at 10 points to avoid sandbagging. Especially on Overheating Combat. (This does not interfere with Cold-Hearted Mode as the effects don't stack there.)
      • Reflect logic reworked.
        • An oversight was patched so that the parry chance could be determined correctly. (This kinda means that the new parry limiter is kinda pointless, but I don't care at this point. The tyranny is over.)
        • Parry Accuracy Buffed for all bosses excluding Roach (5,15) -> (5,30)
        • Reflect now decreases its parry chance for every time Reflect was used, successfully or unsuccessfully. Quick Act can cancel this out.
        • Parry chance decreases twice as fast on Hard mode and goes up for every move after a reflect that isn't "Reflect" or "Quick Act".
  • 2-Player Battle-specific Patch Notes
    • Players have been color-coded for simplicity.
    • The default life count is now 2 instead of 1.
    • The Battle Setup UI has been reworked to look a lot cleaner.
    • The Specials tab for each player has been appropriately been labeled to make it easier to tell whose turn is it.
    • Fixed incorrect statistics.
    • Added more statistics because why not?
    • Reworked Invisi-stats. Now it should be more of a memory game instead of a blind luck-based one.
    • Fixed an oversight where Quick Act wouldn't work properly with Whacker and Determination during 2-Player Battles.
    • Fixed a bug where cooldowns would go down by going back after brining up the Special Moves list during 2-Player Battles.
    • Fixed a bug where Literacy Enhancement wouldn't work properly during 2-Player Battles.
    • Fixed a bug where the multipliers for Critical Hit wouldn't work properly during 2-Player Battles depending on a player's handicap.
    • Fixed a bug where healing would never cap unless the player's power was set to strong (Handicap Level 3) in 2-Player Battles. It should be the other way around now.
    • Fixed a bug where healing would cap at 100 when playing on Tough Guy in 2-Player Battles.
    • Fixed a bug where players in the 2-Player Versus mode wouldn't lose a life when dying to a backfired heal move.
    • Fixed a bug where Reflect wouldn't send damage to the correct enemy in 2-Player Battles.
    • Fixed an oversight that displayed the wrong number when Player 2 parries Player 1's attack in 2-Player Battles. (Just Player 2 was broken.)
    • Fixed an oversight that reset everyone's lives back to 1 during a rematch in 2-Player Battles. It should retain the previous rules.
    • Fixed an oversight that made Determination not work properly in 2-Player Battles.
    • Parry Accuracy (Attack) for both Players Buffed (5,15) -> (5,30)
    • Other QoL changes.
    • I lied. The reflect limiter has been added to 2-Player battle for all handicaps as well... (A 2x for the limiter will be applied for Weak (Handicap level 1), making it faster for it to reach the limit.)

Holy crap, that's a lot of bug fixes. It's almost like this game is unfinished...
